CDC Releases Community Engagement Collection

The Preventing Chronic Disease (PCD) journal, published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has released a new collection highlighting the role of community engagement in advancing population health.

The compilation includes nine peer-reviewed articles that examine strategies from formative research to evaluation, with a focus on chronic disease prevention and health equity. Examples featured in the collection include community–academic partnerships, locally developed messaging strategies, culturally grounded diabetes prevention programs, and innovative collaborations such as the REACH project. These studies demonstrate how building trust, fostering relationships, and using culturally responsive approaches can strengthen community health initiatives.

The release also connects with the third edition of the CDC’s Principles of Community Engagement, which emphasizes trustworthiness and sustained partnerships as essential for effective practice. This collection provides practical insights for organizations and practitioners seeking to design and implement equitable health programs that are rooted in community involvement.
