Cheryl Boyce Leadership Award

Cheryl Boyce M.S., was a trailblazer in health equity, serving as the Executive Director of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health for 24 years. She co-founded the Ohio Federation for Health Equity and Social Justice. She helped more than 30 states replicate the model of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health and was a pioneer in the Minority Health Month movement. She organized the first Minority Health Month celebration in Ohio in 1989.

In 2023, NASOMH established the Cheryl Boyce Leadership Award. This prestigious honor pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Cheryl's commitment to advancing minority health across the nation.

As a founding member of NASOMH, left an indelible mark on the organization with her esteemed leadership. The award was established in her name to recognize individuals who exemplify her leadership, mentorship, and advocacy qualities.

This Leadership Award is presented annually to an outstanding leader in a State Office of Minority Health/Health Equity for exemplary health equity leadership work in their state.

The Vivian Lasley-Bibbs (VLB) Fellowship

The Vivian Lasley-Bibbs (VLB) Fellowship was established to develop the next generation of public health leaders who have demonstrated academic excellence, a passion for health equity, and a desire to work in governmental public health settings.

This fellowship is designed for students who embody the commitment to social justice exemplified by the late Vivian Lasley-Bibbs, a distinguished health equity champion with over 30 years of service in addressing the root causes of health disparities at the governmental level.

The fellowship provides Masters-level public health students with a paid 8-week virtual learning experience, pairing them with the Office of Minority Health/Health Equity Division at a state health agency for practical, hands-on learning through a final project, networking, mentorship, and group didactic sessions.
